This looks like a sturdy building too. Designed by I.M. Pei, the Museum’s area is 484,376 feet squared. While construction was complete in 2006, the MIA was not open to the public until this past December 1, 2008.

Wartime Design
Embassy designs constructed in dangerous parts of the world. Bomb proof, but they don’t look like “bunkers on the Atlantic Wall.” In fact, knowing that the people would be safe inside the building, it would be a shame if the lighted canal built outside one of them fell apart.
