“Old-School Power Attire” and a Return to Formality

Bickle & Brewer, a storied law firm in based in New York City and Dallas, enforces the dress code. Brewer, co founder and a managing partner, speaks of never having been a fan of even the nicest rubber soled loafers and khakis to the office. Their dress-code is deeply rooted in the formality of business and the decorum of the workplace. “Even the mailroom clerks wear suits and ties” write The WSJ.

In 2007 there was a push from a group of lawyers who wished to wear Uggs, jeans, and t-shirts at the office, claiming that they “needed to be comfortable at work. They felt entitled.”

Brewer, at right, takes a great deal of pride in his crisp attire. Mr. Michael Gardner, a hiring partner at the firm, once said to a new employee, “We gotta get rid of those shoes.” They both hold a large disregard for the “square-toed club shoe” that many new applicants and employees wear regularly.
