The new Missoni Hotel opened last month and, somewhat surprisingly, was not quite as covered in their zig-zag patterns. This hotel is in Edinburgh, and there are plans to open another hotel in Kuwait this fall, one in Cape Town for the 2010 Olympics, a Missoni resort in Oman in 2011, and eventually an “ecological” hotel in Brazil. The hotels are an effort to promote their Missoni Home brand and expand the reach of the fashion house. Rooms will start at $347 dollars a night.

The low profile facade of the building doesn’t exactly fit in with the architecture around it, the inside houses pretty swanky interiors.

The Jane-
From the owners of The Bowery Hotel comes The Jane NYC. It’s geared towards young travelers, with not a lot of cash. The hotel used to be a shack up for sailors in the 1920s- and has been restored as such. All of the rooms are cabin style, just like they were when sailors stayed there: and that means cabin SIZE. 150 of the hotel’s 200 rooms are just 50 sq ft the remaining 50 are 250 sq. ft. The head is down the hall. NONE of the rooms have their own bathroom. While they do squeeze in 23” TVs to all the rooms, the storage is all built in, so you can imagine what it’s like to open a drawer to get dressed.
Nonetheless the hotel was beautifully redone and many of the rooms have unobstructed water views. Most importantly, the small rooms go for $99 dollars a night! So it’s sort of like a cool hostel, that also happened to host Opening Ceremony’s CFDA afterpary.

You can build this.
The Lancair Plane kits cost between $50,000 and $130,000. When built, however, their estimated value rises extraordinarily. Not only that, but these planes you build, such as the Lancair IV-P flies at a cruising speed of 330 mph at 24,000 feet. $100,000 to $130,000 and when built is worth between 320,000 to 550,000. Sounds like a good investment. Now decide between this and the jetpack.
